This is the first in a series of professional speakers to present topics to the members of the NDA. Our inaugural speaker is Clarissa Peterson and her topic relates to emotional intelligence. Clarissa Peterson is a Human Resources executive with over 20 years experience. Since March 2005, Clarissa has been the Chief People Officer for DLA Piper, one of the world's largest law firms. In this role she is responsible for the strategy and operations of the People Groups, which include human resources, professional development, legal recruiting and diversity and inclusion. Clarissa is based in Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC.
Clarissa joined DLA Piper from Abt Associates, a government and business research consulting firm, where she was Vice President of Global Human Resources. She directed domestic and international human resources strategy and operations in the United States and 30 countries in the developing world.
Peterson earned a B.S. in Business Management and Finance from the University of Maryland, University College and conducted graduate study in Financial Management in the Masters of General Administration Program. Clarissa is currently pursuing a dual Masters of Business Administration and distance education and e-learning at the same university.
Clarissa has served on the on the Board of Directors of the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) since 2009. HRCI is the leading provider of Human Resources certification worldwide, with over 115,000 global certificants. She will begin her term as Vice Chairwoman in 2012 and serve as Chairwoman from 2013-2014.
She is an active member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Human Resource Association of the National Capital Area (HRA-NCA) and World at Work.
Clarissa has achieved the dual designations of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR). She is one of 514 dual certified SPHR/GPHR professionals worldwide and one of 16 in the state of Maryland.
