Mr. Marksteiner's Bio

 

 PETER R. MARKSTEINER is the Circuit Executive and Clerk of Court for the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Prior to joining the Court in April of 2016, Mr. Marksteiner was a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, where he most recently served as the Director of Civil Law and Litigation. In that capacity he led a team of 287 lawyers and para-professionals, working in 38 locations around the country, supporting a broad portfolio of judicial and administrative civil litigation practice areas.

During his 25 years as an Air Force Judge Advocate (“JAG”), Mr. Marksteiner served in multiple practice areas, including contracts, environmental, labor and employment, commercial space, torts and claims, fiscal, government ethics, Freedom of Information and Privacy Act, criminal prosecution and defense, and as a judge on the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals.

 Mr. Marksteiner holds a B.S. in Criminology, cum laude, from Florida State University, a Master of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a J.D. with Honors from Florida State University, and an LL.M. with Distinction from the Georgetown University Law Center. He is the recipient of numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, the ABA's Career Military Service Award, and distinction as the Air Force Association's Outstanding Career Military Attorney. Mr. Marksteiner has spoken and written extensively on the subject of Information Overload in knowledge-based organizations, and the organization he led as the Chief Information Officer for the Air Force’s legal team won the W. Edwards Deming Award for efficiently leveraging of technology to support the Air Force JAG Corps’ training program.
