Litigation Roundtable - Calendaring Coast to Coast A double roundtable discussion of the differences in docket management and calendaring approaches related to different regions of the U.S., exploring the challenges of reporting, quality control and transitioning from manual entry to formula-based entry. Federal Panel This panel discussion featured Susan Gelmis, Chief Deputy Clerk for Operations, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals; Cindy Jensen, Chief Deputy Clerk, and Amber Freeman, Operations Manager for the U.S. District Court, District of Nevada, Las Vegas. The panel provided perspective from the Clerk’s office and included time for questions and answers.

Pacer and NextGen – Are You Ready? Eydie Flores discussed PACER - and what has changed; Topics included NextGen - what, where, when, why & how to prepare; upgrading accounts; managing multiple PACER accounts (PAA); what we've learned; and tips and takeaways from our experience with courts that have converted to NextGen.

The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure: Practical Implications of the December 1, 2015 Rule Changes Mr. Bradford presented an extensive overview of the rule changes that updated the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and were adopted by the Supreme Court in 2015.  This presentation included concise explanations of amendments to discovery rules, deadline response times, scheduling orders, the allocation of costs in discovery and early discovery requests.  

 

NYSCEF v. ECF How to Navigate the Differences of State and Federal E-filings in New York  Ime Nelson and Millie Lopez outlined the technical differences between e-filing in New York State Court and the NY Federal Courts. They also highlighted the best practices and procedures for e-filing in both courts’ systems. Session attendees received a tutorial on the procedures for redacting; electronically initiating cases; e-filing motions, stipulations, and proofs of service; plus other helpful tidbits.
